Beyond the Machine: The Subtlety of Biological Complexity
What are the limitations of the machine model in understanding the order and regulation of biological processes, especially after arbitrary disturbances?
Most people are conforming to the Scientism model of Biological Units as Machines, probably from Descartes
This is devastating and faulty psychotechnology. One must retain some humility here. It is very subtle and often biological units do appear to be machines sometimes, but BIOLOGICAL UNITS ARE NOT MACHINES
- Machines cannot currently self-repair (this may be changing though).
- They are not imbued with consciousness (consciousness is different from intelligence and knowledge).
- Machines cannot account for arbitrary disturbances (this is what those videos of small Asian ladies hitting machines come from).
- Most importantly: We don't know what we don't know and we don't know A LOT about how biology functions in the real world
As can be seen above, a lot is changing but let me repeat WE DONT KNOW WHAT WE DONT KNOW in order to hammer that home
